Issue #1 - Experiences

Hello, 24 Hour Race Community!

We hope you are all doing great, and are excited to see the first 2024 Newsletter for this year's 24-Hour Race in Malaysia! The community team will keep you updated with newsletters informing you about the latest news, updates, and announcements as well as some exciting previews leading up to the 24-Hour Race!

The process of selecting the organising committee members was long and tough for the directors as there were many applicants this year with remarkable skill sets and experiences. During the process, applicants were interviewed in a small group which was then divided into a 5 day interview process for the directors.

“As the BD director, I was honestly just looking for people who are interesting and can paint a good picture in my mind. Since the nature of BD is very tedious and long, I wanted my committee to work hard but also play hard.” - Jia Shin (Business Development Director)

“Selecting committee members was challenging as I had to make good use of available resources while ensuring diversity in the team. As a director, it was important to have individuals with unique ideas, experience, and strong practical skills. However, there were many applicants for the marketing committee which made the decision-making process even more difficult.” - Desmond (Marketing Director)

“As the community director, I was looking for people with charisma and good communication skills. To ensure that all parties involved in the 24-hour race would have all their questions answered by wonderful, kind, and respectful people, I needed to choose committee members with all these qualities.” - Alex (Community Director)

After the committee members were selected, we then had an icebreaker session with everyone which allowed all the members to bond with the directors as well as with each other. The icebreaker session lasted for 1 and a half hours and consisted of activities such as self-introductions, and 2 games which were ‘Werewolf’ and ‘CodeNames’. Everyone had lots of fun participating in the activities and got to share the experience.

Meet some of the OrgCom Members below with their statements to these questions!

What experiences are you looking for by being a part of the 24-hour race OrgCom?

“As a part of the operations committee, I look forward to engaging in a variety of tasks focused on race operations and logistics. These include managing race activities, coordinating budgets, and conducting interviews to recruit volunteers. I am excited about contributing to the development of innovative ideas for activities and ensuring that runners and teams stay involved.”

- Raashi (Operations Committee Member)

“As part of the marketing committee, I am seeking experiences related to designing and managing marketing campaigns. Also, experiences that require me to generate my ideas and designs for advertising the race and raising awareness of human trafficking through social media”

- Fiona (Marketing Committee Member)

“Other than raising funds for Modern-day Slavery, I would like to create an unforgettable experience for runners of this year's 24 HR Race. Moreover, I would like to learn more about working for a huge event like this. Lastly, I am looking to have a sense of community formed with both my OrgCom members and the runners of this year's race.”

- Anshula (Executive Committee Member)

“To participate in the 24-hour race OrgCom, I am looking to collaborate with other organisers and volunteers to ensure the smooth execution of the event. Furthermore, challenge my organising and communication skills.”

- Bella (Community Committee Member)

What do you expect and hope to achieve?

“My goal is to enhance my collaboration skills by working closely with individuals from within my own and different committees to make this race a successful event. I expect a larger turnout this year, as we aspire to attract more participants dedicated to advocating against human trafficking. I also hope that we can surpass last year's fundraising efforts!”

- Raashi (Operations Committee Member)

“I expect more people will participate in the race this year and gradually increase in the following years. Also, to enlarge the amount of fundraisers and gather donations to help resolve this issue.”

- Fiona (Marketing Committee Member)

“I do expect and hope that more participants will join our event this year. I hope that we will be able to organise a fun and fruitful race while keeping in mind our goal of raising awareness.”

- Anna (Operations Committee Member)

“I expect more participants this year and hope that we can successfully organise a fun and enjoyable race for everyone as well as raise awareness to stop the issue.”

- Natalie (Community Committee Member)
